The Metropolitan Museum of Art

As part of my internship at the design department of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, I was asked to conceptualize and design potential new merchandise to be sold in the museum store.

These designs needed to uphold the established branding identity of the Met, while applying it in unexpected and engaging new ways.

Big head, big logo

Oversized sculptured heads in earthy, monochromatic color schemes, intertwined with an oversized The Met logo. In a twist on classic oversized logo t-shirts, the logo acts as pattern and ornament, complementing the photographic content.

A more vibrant, surrealist twist on the big heads above.

Someone MET someone

A(n obvious) play on the Met and the word ‘met’. Pairing artists, historical figures, time periods, etc., by context or alliteration, to create phrases that are puzzling or nonsensical on first glance, but once understood, allude to the scope and variety of the museum’s collection.

Handle with care

A simple but eyecatching tagline, inspired by the text on artwork packaging.

Illuminated monograms

Drawing from the wealth of beautiful ornamental letters in Medieval illuminated manuscripts, this design offers an artful twist on the embroidered monogram tee.
